Screening Study

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Counseling & Assessment Associates’s (BCCCAA) Screening for Success program uses a brief, 1-hour “screener” to identify students who may be struggling with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, and depression at a fraction of the cost and time of neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing.

The Goyen Foundation has funded a 50-60 student demonstration study that will allow BCCCAA to explore the following questions before applying for additional grant money to fund a larger study:

  1. What percentage of 5th grade students are at risk for dyslexia, ADHD, and mental health challenges?

  2. What is the prevalence of comorbidities (the possibility of two or more learning or mental health challenges) in this 5th grade population?

  3. How does the simple act of taking the screener affect student progress and teacher and parent attitude about the student for the rest of the year?
